1868 – Vienna – 1918
painter, designer and teacher
From 1885 to 1893, Moser studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under professors Franz Rumpler, Christian Griepenkerl and Josef Matthias Trenkwald, and after that for another two years at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts under Professor Franz Matsch. In June 1900, he became a professor himself. Koloman Moser was a founding member of the Vienna Secession, which he left in 1905 together with the Klimt Group.
He was a co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte (1903) and, together with Josef Hoffmann, its director until his resignation in 1906. After that, he dedicated himself mainly to his painting and the illustration of books. He also designed stage scenery. Koloman Moser’s pieces of furniture were exhibited at the Kunstschau and at the International Art Exhibition in Rome.
